Bombay: Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is conducting a 12-day guide training program in Nagpur to train local tour guides.
The inauguration of the certified guide training program was held at the MTDC regional office in Nagpur on March 19, 2018 by Swati Kale, MTDC CEO with the presence of Arati Meshram, HOD-Government IHMCT College , Nagpur, Vilas Kale, President-Cenin Travel & VED Council along with IITTM faculty C. Barua, Hanumant Hede and Yogesh Nirgude, officer and training coordinator, MTDC, HO, Mumbai.
An immersive and in-depth training course offers a platform for aspirants wishing to become certified tour guides. This program provides local guides with practical and theoretical knowledge about the various destinations across the state.
It also helps them to establish better relations with domestic and foreign tourists visiting the state.
Tourist guides are the mind and essence of tourism, as they are the main representatives of the state. It needs to be updated from time to time according to the needs of the travelers.
This program aims to improve the quality of local tour guides and improve their interaction skills, which will certainly enhance the tourist experience.
The program is designed to provide the best curriculum to eligible applicants, covering all facets of the state, its culture and heritage, group administration, and emergency management. Eligible candidates may also take a written test and make a mock presentation on a city tour to obtain the license.
The goal is for more than 900 guides to be available to tourists in various destinations in the state and generate employment opportunities. MTDC has conducted a guide training program in various cities in Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Sindhudurg and Pune, Nasik, Amravati, Solapur and Kolhapur will be held in 2018-19.
Commenting on the occasion, Madan Yerawar, Minister of State Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, said: “I am pleased to announce that Nagpur and Vidarbha have for the first time obtained certified local tour guides and are ready to offer services to various tourist destinations in the state to cater to the need of tourists. They play an important role in promoting the destination and therefore act as representatives of the state and our country. “
He added: “MTDC’s mission is to promote education for employment and economic stability guides in the state of Maharashtra. This will help drive a wide range of activities, services and services in our state.” .
