For Angela Kaluzyn, making dreams become reality is all in a day’s work.
The Skilled Travel agent, based in Ingleburn, works hard to ensure her clients have perfect holidays, and her hard work has just been rewarded.
The Oakdale resident was recently named the National Travel Consultant of the Year at the Global Stars travel awards held in Dubai.
Ms Kaluzyn said she never expected to walk away with the award.
“I don’t know what was going through my head at the time, it’s just not something you expect will happen,” she said. “It was a shock, but a good one.
“When there’s 100 of the best agents from NSW and Australia in contention, you don’t think you’re going to win.”
Ms Kaluzyn said the win was wonderful not just for herself and Skilled Travel – a family-owned travel business which has been operating in Macarthur since 1984 – but for the Macarthur area in general
She said the four-day trip to Dubai was “very warm” and amazing chance to get some first-hand knowledge of a popular travel destination.
“We got to see a lot of the different hotels that are on offer, we spent a night four-wheel driving out in the desert, riding camels,” Ms Kaluzyn said.
“It’s a beautiful place, definitely somewhere to consider for your next holiday.”
Ms Kaluzyn said she took a lot of pride in crafting the ideal vacation for her clients.
“You do feel a lot of responsibility in trying to get everything perfect,” she said.
“People come to you with their dreams, their wants and you have to make that a reality.
“We’re selling dreams, not something tangible that people can touch, so it’s exciting when it all comes together.”
Ms Kaluzyn said her personal favourite travel destinations were Turkey and Egypt.
“I love all the history,” she said. “And especially in Turkey, there’s so much variety there, there are beautiful beaches, great bazaars, lots of different things to do.”
She said people were often surprised with another of her top travel spots.
“I love the Kimberley,” she said. “It’s right in our own backyard and it is just the most unique place.”
