Don’t miss out on these taster sessions for Year 11s at City College Plymouth

Parents are being urged to act fast to secure a spot for their children at City College Plymouth’s Year 11 Taster Sessions, which will be taking place throughout the June half-term holiday.

These popular sessions always fill up fast, but with the college maintaining strict social distancing measures, it is now even more essential to book your child’s space quickly, as each session is only open to a limited number.

One-hour taster sessions in 23 subject areas

City College Plymouth is hosting these one-hour sessions for each of its 23 main subject areas, and these tasters are not only a great way for any undecided Year 11s to try out a course before applying, but they are also a fantastic way to meet future coursemates, check out the campus and start looking forward to their next steps.

Current student, Ethan Wilks, 18, said he made his mind up about applying to the college after attending a taster session, he said: “I knew I wanted to study music, but I was a little unsure where or which type of course. I came along to a taster session during the holidays and I was hooked. For our session, we had to form a band and come up with a performance – it was so much fun.”

What does City College Plymouth offer?

Those looking to progress to university can do so by completing a two-year extended diploma, which is the equivalent of three A Levels enabling them to focus on what they love for two years whilst also meeting UCAS requirements. For those keen to enter the world of work sooner rather than later, the college’s industry-focused courses intend to equip students with the skills they need to progress to their dream job or an apprenticeship.

Marketing and student recruitment officer, Ellen Cotter, said: “We at City College want to assure the parents of Year 11 pupils that we have your children’s best interests at heart. We know how difficult the past 13 months have been on them and how some might be feeling a bit lost.

“We want them to know they are still able to have a fantastic future and the career of their dreams, and we welcome them to come and spend a little bit of time with us over the half-term so they can find out what the college is like for themselves. If they feel they have outgrown school, book a taster session; if they are struggling to choose the right career, book several taster sessions; even if they just want the opportunity to make some new friends over the holiday, they will be welcome at a taster session.”

Taster sessions are limited to Year 11 pupils only and bookings will close on Friday, May 21, 2021. To view the full schedule of sessions and to book a place, visit cityplym.ac.uk or call 01752 305300.
