Beginning the discussion on the challenges facing the industry while hiring people from B schools, Brij pahwa asked the opinion of the group members about the lack of skills that are missing and what possible the different solutions may be.
The panel was attended by Amit Vaish, Director and Head of Human Resources, Barclays Technology, Jacob Jacob, CHRO, Columbia Asia Healthcare, Priyanka Nandan, Human Resources, Philips Health Systems and Emerging Companies, Bharat Chabbra, Head of Department D (HR), Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, Tamana Dhamija, co-founder of Baby Destination.
At first, Tamana Dhamija said there is a lack of “Curiosity” among the candidates and, with a curiosity, great ideas “out of the box” appear.
“Soft skills are important to make a judgment, you also have to be passionate and curious. The curriculum for B schools should be changed according to the time to keep pace with the changes that are taking place in the industry, ”said Amit Vaish.
Jacob also suggested that industry and the institute work together to reduce the distance between classrooms and the booth. “More world leaders should be invited to share their experiences with students,” he added.
Priyanka Nandan said the corporate world and a candidate have a symbiotic relationship, the two sides must work together to bridge the gap.
Putting more emphasis on this, Bharat Chabbra also suggested that there should be more joint ventures between industry and academic institutions as it is joint responsibility of both to bridge this gap.
